4/23/09 New details emerge in federal investigation of Byram Pharmacy - Greenwich Time

In a recently unsealed federal affidavit, an FBI agent said that
former Byram Pharmacy owner and pharmacist Joby George sold large
amounts of oxycontin to several Connecticut men without valid
prescriptions, looking the other way as they resold the drugs on the
street and profiting from the cash exchange.

The release of the records outlines a scheme comprising four men who
would provide fraudulent prescriptions to the pharmacy while George
pocketed the cash for the illegal transaction and billed the insurance
company of unassuming customers, according to the affidavit. The
emerging details come seven months after the now defunct pharmacy was
raided by the FBI, leading to George's arrest.

George's lawyer said his client was duped and is only guilty of
insurance fraud.

Court records identify the men involved in the prescription fraud
scheme as Thomas Meyerholz, 39, of 20 Raccio Drive, in Bethany; Bret
Zielanski, 35, of 109 Concord Street, in Hamden; Christopher Beauton,
50, of 20 Raccio Drive, in Bethany; and David Deloughery, 41, of East
Haven.......

COMMENT:

Who's names did he use to claim for the insurance?

Was it yours?

Doesn't sound right to me, someone's names were on the prescription
along with their insurance info.

So I guess he doesn't know these out of towners that he gave the
oxycontin to, but he's guilty of insurance fraud?
Yeah.....okay!

There is much more to this story.

04/23/09 Should The Greenwich Police Department Put Mugshots Up On Twitter?

It’s one thing to see the mugshots of famous people show up on the web but getting busted for anything in Denton could see you show up on Twitter

The Latest High Tech Police Tool:

Denton, Texas Police Use Twitter To Post Mugshots

DentonPolice Twitters recent mugshots. And, my God, are some of them terrific.

A Winning Smile

This 19-year-old pictured above was arrested for drinking an alcoholic beverage. Judging from his smile, it was an Electric Lemonade from T.G.I.Friday’s.

For The Record:

To make it clear this isn’t an official Twitter profile for the Denton police but rather an experiment by an art student as a way to show just how much personal stuff ends up available on the web.

Through some simple scraping of the public information available on the Denton police web site the student creates a Twitter post of the date and time of the arrest, the age of the charged person along with their mugshot posted to TwitPic. I am sure there are some who think this is a pretty cool idea but it also shows just how scary Twitter can be as a publishing platform. Considering just how much personal stuff is available on the web the idea that it could show up on something like Twitter without you even knowing about it should make people just a tad nervous.
